The whole tower of babel story seems to be an attack against babylonians which implies it happened when the babylonians conquered Israel which implies that it happened afterwards. But there is the thing with the samaritans. Accorsing to genetics their paternal side is israelite and their maternal side is from other middle eastern groups which implies they could be the result of israeli men marrying babylonian and assyrian women. They seem to come from the babylonian exile but they write in a paleo-hebrew script and they also have a pentateuch that is very similar to the masoretic text and the septuagint.
