Who else's been autistically hyperfixated on the Byzantine Empire recently?
Justinian was a good Emperor btw, don't care what y'all woketards think
>>
>>18042962
Woketards like him because he listened to his girlboss prostie wife, and attacked his best bro general
>>
>>18042962
I've been hyperfixated on the Macedonian dynasty. It's pure kino.
>>
>>18042962
Woketard Redditors are pro-Byzantine because they were victims of heccin racism from Latins

He was the second avatar of Antichrist. The first one was Nero and the third Napoleon

Arguably one of, it not the worst statesmen in Byzantine history, his actions basically sealed the fate of the Byzantines

oxymoron

He was a competent ruler who successfully did what he set out to do. He was an egomanic he named everything after himself and his grand ambitions would be more a burden outside of the conquest of Africa.
>>
Due to the racial situation that I at birth look to have had and how I was called in half, but do not feel as
Thoughts were put forward as to who I might be able to speak to in the future

My own unchangeable viewpoints on what things should be
Supporting Israel as a White Western nation to expand and take over the entire region, with all non Western elements to be removed without a single remainder.
Supporting Christianity and Judaism as the only Religions in that region, and only if they tolerate each other.
Those who cannot, go somewhere else, far away.

To the point about anyone to talk to,
The only way that I would ever talk to someone from a group that wasn't one of the two that I support above is if they openly desecrated their own group in some way for all to see, and the more of a higher position that was wanted to be had, the larger the desecration will have to be.

I myself will Never deal with someone from the other side if they do not openly desecrate something of their own, whether it is to renounce, burn, demolish, kill, or more, something from their side, and then perhaps with extreme oversight, words can be exchanged, and not before.

I do not talk to those who are from that side, ever, and never will, and had to be drugged and beaten memoryless in order to lose my identity, but even after all of that, I still retained my sense of aversion and extreme dislike for that group and what it represents.

>*ruins the country for literally no reason*
This faggot didn't even want a classic powergrab move, he doomed his fatherland to get a shitty co-rulership deal he almost had had before the Andronikos III died anyway. What a fucking moron. Even in his own diaries in which he tries to portray himself in the best light possible he seems like a fucking moron. Legitimately, what the fuck was his problem?

Honestly the laskardis-palaiologos period is fascinating in seeing how much a state can do right and wrong so fast.
You have a revival by the nicean emperors, and overthrow by Michael, and then shit starts going down due to like 8 civil wars consecutivly.
>>
>>18045210
They are comparing him to other emperors not themselves. Compared to past emperors he was an absolute retard.
>>
>>18045270
Did other emperors have to confront a situation as harsh as he did? The answer is no, and realizing that means realizing that they would have fared far worse than him. It's easy to claim that a statesman is good when the circumstances favor him.
>>
>>18042962
Me, thinking about what could have been had doukas not fled like a bitch at manzikert. Also considering I am a greek/italian mongrel I know at some point my ancestors lived under the emperor, pretty cool desu

Leo III inherited a far worse situation
>>
>>18045276
Yes, Leo the Isaurian, Maurice, Heraclius, Constantine V, Basil I, Basil II, and Alexios Komnenos all faced much harsher conditions when they took power and yet - SOMEHOW they didn't reduce their country to a powerless city state.
>>
>>18045282
Manzikert is the disaster that never should have been. It was the civil war after Manzikert that really fucked everything up. The State was able to mount a counter attack but chose to let Turks take over Anatolia and fight a civil war instead.

Manzikert wouldn't have even happened if the Byzantines hadn't been chimping out about Armenian heresy and shit, resettling populations and whatnot.
Hell, it's possible the Levant and Egypt would have proven stauncher foes against Islam if the Eastern Romans weren't such christofreaks, antagonizing whole swathes of their empire over small theological differences.
The Egyptians and much of the East welcomed the Arabs, preferring them over the strict rule of Constantinople.
>>

Yeah whenever you read the history of the east you just realize it’s just fuck up after fuck up. They were so lucky they didn’t go extinct earlier.

I'm not sure if you are a retard trying to ragebait me or an autistic tranny who can't admit he's wrong.

It wasn't John VI who started the civil war. His opponents declared him a traitor with no cause or trial while he was away from Constantinople. They started the conflict.
>>
He crushed dissent and left divisions that weakened Byzantium later.
>>
>>18046588
>His opponents declared him a traitor with no cause
Yeaaah, he totally didn't try to force a deal which would make him a co-ruler and oust the regency. Fuck off.
>>
>>18046800
He was already a de facto co-ruler under Andronikos III and he did an objectively excellent job. Are we supposed to believe that the guy who was doing everything to save the empire just had a change of heart and became a cartoon villain after his buddy died? Please.
>>
>>18046181
Its pretty crazy how they were able to take back Italy and then lose it nearly instantly
Italy was probably not worth it, should have just held the south and fortified sicily
>>

>The Egyptians and much of the East welcomed the Arabs, preferring them over the strict rule of Constantinople.
No they didn't. The Egyptians did not want the Arabs. They literally invited a Byzantine army into Alexandria, which was the primary city which resisted Imperial policy in religion, to expel the Arabs from the country. No Armenians were joining the Arabs, they actively resisted them for decades. The Syrians attempted to have Byzantine rule back into the region as well. This 'welcoming' of the Arabs is literally made up bullshit with no basis in reality.

>Justinian was a good Emperor btw, don't care what y'all woketards think
Justinian gets way too much shit for overexpansion. I do think Spain was a mistake, but North Africa and Sicily are huge. He should've given more support to Belisarius so things could be wrapped up faster or waited a few years instead of jumping near instantly from conquering the Vandals to the Ostrogoths. Also his reaction to the Nika riots was 100% justified.
>Muh 30000 rioters killed
Boohoo nigga.
The amount of shit this man had to deal with and gets vilified for is crazy.

>>18046813
It just occured to me that the relationship between Andronikos III and John VI is pretty similar to that of Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. I wonder if it actually inspired Martin to some degree.
>>
>>18049111
Probably did. King's Landing is basically Constantinople. Whatever book had the big siege battle was based on the 8th century Arab siege of Constantinople, even featured Greek fire.
>>
>>18048365
Justinian benefits and suffers from having so much of his reign documented. It's the same with Crassus loss at Carrhae, we have such little documentation about other Roman defeats and so much information about Carrhae that it becomes a huge focal point. Someone like Basil II, for whom we have such little information about, but could very well have had just as complicated a reign as Justinian. There's no Secret History for Basil, or no Suetonius.

Over the past two months I've read these
>The Alexiad
>Agent of Byzantium
>Lest Darkness Fall

Earlier this year I read last Kaldellis book and right now I'm trying with the only Niketas Choniates translation I've found. I thought byzantine sources would be much more available in digital than they are.

There's also a pro-Komnenian essay I found last week and of course enjoyed it:
