I always thought lynching was far more common. I used to think there were something like 20k in American history. I was shocked when I learned the real figure to be more like 4k.
I'm not surprised. Lynching has to be an extreme remedy, you cannot expect the common rabble to be bloodthirsty every Friday or so
>>18053259>Ed Coy was charged with assaulting Mrs. Henry [Julia] Jewell, a white woman. A mob pronounced him guilty, strapped him to a tree, chipped the flesh from his body, poured coal oil over him, and the woman in the case set fire to him.wtf mane
>>18053259Yeah there were a few thousand, mostly between the 1870s and 1920s. They could be very gruesome and involve large crowds though.
>>18053259More than half of the victims were white too
>>18053295Lynching victims in the South were overwhelmingly black males. In the West it was more varied and whites, Mexicans, Native Americans, and Chinese were all lynched.
>>18053273Nooooooo the poor hecking racist, how horrible!
>>18053295No, 75% were black.
>Most lynchings occurred in the South and West, however they are documented in every section of the United States outside New England.[3]
>>18053259Fun fact: the Vietnamese have killed twice as many American blacks than Americans have.
>>18053348yup, mexican cattle thieves
>>18053259yeah revisionist history whiners will unironically tell you lies like “people would gather after church to burn a local brown boy for no reason, the kids would fight over having bits of his burnt flesh as snacks”
>>18053712There are instances of similar stuff.
>>18053348I swear I read a source that there was something like 21k lynchings in American history, with most victims being white. I guess I misremembered.
