>Woodrow Wilson and 'the Ugliest of Treacheries ... At the 1919 Paris Peace Conference, Ho Chi Minh sought Woodrow Wilson's support for Vietnamese independence, but Wilson, bound by policies of colonialism and racism, refused to meet with him or grant his requests for self-determination, leading Ho to become embittered and eventually embrace communism. This pivotal rejection, known as the "Wilsonian Moment," failed to deliver on Wilson's idealistic vision of self-determination for colonial peoples in Asia, instead shaping Ho Chi Minh's path towards revolutionary struggle and contributing to the history of Vietnam.
