Jung so far has been the only one who made any sense of this book at all for me. Rabbinical and Christian literature that I've come by at least is surprisingly shallow on this story. The Islamic interpretation of the story is much the same as the much older Jewish interpretations, which is NPC biomass maxxing swill. Perhaps that is the real point though, upon reflection. God is too terrible and unknowable, but cling to him regardless and you may yet not suffer the full force of his blind, infantile, schizophrenic wrath. Your family and all you care about however may endure these things, but they can be replenished, they are merely resources to replenish. It's all quite brown on the surface level.
