No. You view them through a modern set of western morals, which is largely based on Christian thought. Romans during their golden age had a different set of morals, which shifted in time, not only because of Christianity. Some of the old Roman ideas were even merged into the late aintiquity thought. For example, stoic philosophy was mostly compatible with Christian morals and stayed.
