The Bible never states that “Hell” is a real thing. In the Old Testament it says throughout numerous times that everyone just goes to “Sheol”, an underworld place of darkness where people sleep forever aka the grave. In the New Testament, literally the ONLY times anything like Hell is mentioned is in PARABLES by Jesus when he is referring to people or things being thrown into “the destroying fire” as in, a fiery pit outside a city to burn bodies or waste; a place of instant destruction. The only other reference is the lake of fire in Revelation into which the dragon, the beast, etc are thrown into which is the same kind of thing, a metaphorical place of instant annihilation. Hades and Tartarus are mentiond by Paul in his letters, but that's because he's literally writing to hellenistic Greco-Roman gentiles.“Hell”, especially as imagined in modern pop culture consciousness, is literally not a thing in the Bible. Early Christians believed in Annihilationism, in which the souls of those punished by God will simply be destroyed and cease to exist. Curiously this is also what atheists believe happens after death.

The Jews plagiarized the idea of hell from Greekoid pagans. There was no concept of hell in Judea before hellenization
>it's all just a metaphor guys don't believe it Are you trans by any chance?
>>18055962This. Medieval conceptions of hell are based entirely on Greco-Roman (in particular Etruscan) concepts.Pagan Hades/Hel isn't all fire and brimstone though. That's reserved for its deepest pit Tartaros.

Hell is literally the Valley of Hinnom outside Jerusalem.
>>18055933Hell, the biblical version, is simply everywhere outside the heavenly kingdom that has been established upon the earth. It is where the lost and damned are, and to where the unrepentant may be excommunicated. Where the demons roam and have their domains, where the wicked go to do their work for their devils. Souls, those are created to serve a purpose and assigned to the spiritless to give them a place in service to the heavenly kingdom, destroyed if no longer required or passed on as an identity to the next bearer.
How can you weep and gnash your teeth if you're just dead? The Bible describes fire and darkness. Also explain Lazarus and the rich man
Jesus descended to the realm of the dead (often termed "hell" in translations) are 1 Peter 3:18-20, which speaks of Jesus proclaiming to imprisoned spirits from Noah's time, and Ephesians 4:8-10, where Paul mentions His descent to the "lower parts of the earth" before ascending.
