There are female overseers in the New Testament. Cope conservatards.
>>18068050Christians were egalitarian, unlike pagansEven in the Old Testament, actually. The Hebrew Bible presents an interesting dynamic regarding female figures women have a more prominent role in the oldest books, such as Genesis, Judges, Samuel, and Kings. Characters like Deborah, the prophetess and judge, and Huldah, the prophetess who authenticated sacred texts, are examples of this. ancient Israelite culture, including the possible influence of matriarchal values in more ancient times
Lets open up our bibles to 1 Corinthians >As in all the churches of the saints, women should be silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as the law also says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church (1 Cor 14.33-5). Ephesians states>Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife just as Christ is the head of the church, the body of which he is the Savior. Just as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives ought to be, in everything, to their husbands (Eph 5.22-24). The Book of Colossians, similarly, advises>Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord(Col 4:18). And a final pseudepigraphal Pauline letter follows along these lines. First Timothy proclaims>Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty (1 Tim 2.11-15).
>>18068140>1 Corinthians 14:33-35This is a known interpolation into Paul see (https://ehrmanblog.org/the-silencing-of-women-1-cor-1434-35-as-an-interpolation/)>Ephesians 5:22-24First of all, Ephesians is a pseudopigrapha, all historians/scholars agree it wasn't actually written by Paul (https://ehrmanblog.org/did-paul-write-pauls-letter-to-the-ephesians/). Second of all the passage in question has to do with marriage, not ministry. Even so, I don't read the NT literally and if you read carefully you will see it has different theologies about marriage. Authentic Paul actually has a very egalitarian view on marriage (1 Corinthians 7:4) but actually recommend celibacy due to his apocalyptic commitments (1 Corinthians 7:26). Ephesians was written at a later period of time, when the church was becoming more patriarchal. >Colossians 4:18Similar to above, Colossians is also considered by many to be pseudepigrapha (https://ehrmanblog.org/did-paul-write-colossians-according-to-most-scholars-no-paul-did-not-write-colossians/)
>>18068140>1 Timothy 2:11-15Again, this is also pseudepigrapha and not authentic Paul (Collins, Raymond F. (2004). 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus: A Commentary. Westminster John Knox Press. p. 4). Similar to above, this was written in a different context when the Christian church was becoming more centralized and patriarchal. Anyway when we read Paul's authentic epistles we do find evidence of females in leadership positions. In my specific claim in the OP above female overseers, we do find direct evidence for this in Philippians. Paul specifically addresses the epistle to the overseers/bishops there (Philippians 1:1), and in his final exhortation in chapter 4 he specifically addresses two prominent female leaders at the church in Philippi, Euodia and Syntyche, urging them to be of the same mind as him and urging the other pastors and deacons there to be in harmony with them, doubtless these two women were overseers in the church there, and doubtless this was a ubiquitous position across the early church as female converts to the faith likely outnumbered male converts, and these women would have hosted gatherings of Christians in their homes as overseers and charismatic teachers. This is why I'm proud to be an Episcopalian. We're actually allowed to have an open mind and not be weighed down by centuries of oppressive patriarchal dogma. You should really consider this. But since you're a conservative you obviously have a low IQ, given that people who hold conservative views are psychologically lower in openness. :)

>>18068240>Again, this is also pseudepigrapha and not authentic PaulThere is absolutely no good reason to believe this, nor is it typically justified on any ground other than appeal to authority, nor do the reasons the secularists who are appealed to have any merit, but are essentially circular and rely on the presuppositions of the false secular religion. We reject this assertion, and persist in maintaining the authentic scriptures. It also speaks volumes how you ignored the other scriptures.>addresses two prominent female leaders at the church in Philippi, Euodia and Syntyche, urging them to be of the same mind as him and urging the other pastors and deacons there to be in harmony with themThat they or any other woman is ever said to be a leader or overseer or pastor or implied to be the same here or in any scripture is absolutely false, you wickedly corrupt scripture like the devil by so misciting it. Nor is the epistle addressed to the overseers, but "all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and deacons", and what this greeting has to do with chapter 4 I cannot apprehend.>This is why I'm proud to be an EpiscopalianYou're proud of apostasy, though I doubt you even are one. It raises the question: if scripture is not the word of God, why should I care? Why would I be "weighed down" by the dogma of Philippians? But without a sure word from God all religion is reduced to a human game, and has no reason for being. It is therefore no wonder why the apostate liberal churches are dead and dying.
