How realistic is the "Good Wehrmacht, bad SS" trope you see so often in historical fiction? Could a soldier really speak badly of a party member like in pic related and not expect to have his brains blown out?
The werhmatch engaged in war crimes in a much higher scale than the UK and the USA and most of them held national socialist beliefs but a good part of them did hate the waffen SS either due to it's extreme cruelty or due to the fact that in the early stages of the war they fought with no sense of self preservation

All Thompson guns sent under lend lease went to Nazi partisans. America propped up the partisans that did all the war crimes and all three sides supported them. It took until 1942 for the wehrmact to even get into Russia and it's primary war crime was Leningrad (obviously) and then stalingrad where Romania did everything. Afterwards all the war crimes were by partisans and the wehrmact assisted them to some extent but for the most part Nazis weren't even present. America failed to capture Munich and the reason for low rate of allied war crimes is their forces were very small, lost, and were confined to bases. In 1947 Hamburg rioted and the occupation was useless and allies didn't have anyone available to do anything.

It wasn’t like the USSR where you made a joke in front of some friends and got thrown in a gulag, you has to be actively trying to cause a problem. I’d have to go find the report but in one German city their Gestapo branch only ever investigated around 1/4 of the calls they recieved, and of those only took action less than half the time.
