On 7 May 1794, the National Convention established the Worship of the Supreme Being; the opening clauses of the Decree Establishing the Worship of the Supreme Being of the 18th Floréal of the Year II declared:>The French People recognize the existence of the Supreme Being and the Immortality of the Soul.>They declare that the best service of the Supreme Being is the practice of man's duties.>They set among the most important of these duties the detestation of bad faith and tyranny, by punishing tyrants and traitors, by caring for the unfortunate, respecting the weak, defending the oppressed, doing unto others all the good one can, and not being unjust towards anyone.Let me guess, you "need" more?
> muh supreme beingLMAO. Robespierre just guillotined the king and the church then LARPs as a messiah with this state-mandated cringe cult.> detest tyrannySays the guy running the literal Reign of Terror. Peak clown world.
>>18078441>Reign of TerrorThere were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.
>>18078439I appreciate that Robespierre recognized that the Cult of the Reason was doomed to fail because morality requires a God. But he himself failed to see that morality requires not only a God, but a "because God said so". Rationality doesn't cut it.
>>18078441>then LARPs as a messiah with this state-mandated cringe cult.I understand that the general opinion is that he did not larp as a messiah. He honestly believed that the majority of the French people were down with his politics. Also the state cults' main function was being anti-papist. They couldn't just go for a Gallican church because they Voltaire and Rosseau had infected them with brain worms.
>>18078439So is the Supreme Gentleman the Supreme Being's greatest prophet?
>>18078439The conversion was a charade
