Why exactly did Russia’s transition from socialism to capitalism fail so miserably?

Shouldn’t it have lead them to prosperity and more freedom?
I don’t understand why it worked well in the west but not in Russia.

Oligarchs. They bum rushed the previously state owned industries and milked the country dry to fatten their wallets the very second they could. Not to mention the Soviet Union being in bad shape before the transition even began.
>>
God I am so sick of these ignorant globohomo anti Russia posts. You probably dont even know that the conflict began in 2014.
Maybe Eurofags should fix their own stagnate, shitskin filled, has been countries before casting judgment on anybody else.

It's globohomo to talk about Russia's economic collapse in the 90s? Let me guess, you're a Russian nationalist who spent his entire life in Berlin?
>>
Russia's economic performance 1991-2014 was about the same as Poland's. Kinda bad considering they have oil but hardly a disaster. Any relative decline since then is down to Russia's choice to prioritize Luganda and Donbabwe over development

There was still poverty in 1961.

I think the main problem is that the beautiful country is full of Russians.

because socialism is an idea

it didn't fail. it was a stunning success for the capitalist world. they got to gorge themselves on russian wealth. the oligarchs reaped where they never sowed, a staple of capitalism.
why do you think capitalism would make things better for random russians?

>I don’t understand why it worked well in the west but not in Russia.
this is like asking why the roman slave economy worked so well for roman citizens but not for the slaves

So. Gorby had a pretty good plan to liberalize the system, introduce steady market reforms, and bring the USSR into the modern era. Then a bunch of KGB goons and military homo sovieticus knuckle draggers decided to try to coup him, ensuing the USSR broke up in a chaotic mess. Thus, the 1990s.

But Russia is still sending men into space, it even did so last year.

It has, if we compare modern Russia with the late Soviet Union. If anything, the quality of life in modern Russia is the highest in the country's entire history.

Socialism was an unmitigated disaster of grand proportion for Russia, for their empire was literally swindled away by Herr Lenin, an actaul paid agent of the krauts and a moron bar none of his time.
He actually thought
>Peace deal? Nooo, If we just don't surrender the krauts will get tired and stop marching eastwards! Surely this is a great idea with zero military flaws
Thus the Russian empire was effectively halved, especially with the loss of Ukraine and Azerbaijan
Not until after the german empire was beaten by actual powers was the "Russian" empire even allowed take Ukraine and Azerbaijan
Even then they fought against a divided, phantom resistance on the fringes of the empire and actual powers they were fighting proved unwilling or actively on their side.
The husk of the empire was allowed to be handled by bolsheviks at that opening after years uppn years of "war communism" and "state capitalism". the latter being the greatest "thought" bolsheviks could come up with after spending the more time than the entire first world war just on Russia
Herr Lenin, after his use was done followed his masters in Berlin and died,
The poverty circus then had literal foid tier infighting to select who was the greatest delusional retard of the land.
Not to mention the Georgian gaylord, cornhead and the retirement home governments.
The projects like the annihilation of the Aral sea, Chernobyl, the "new" soviet "man", "industrialization" were catastrophic for Russia.
The knowledge and more importantly calculation problems permanently crippled Russia under the soviet yoke.

>growth
And where does that additional profit go?
Clearly not to citizens or city councils or whatever the fuck those are called in Russia.

Public infrastructure, like Moscow metropolitan net, Kerch bridge, Crimea, Grozny reconstruction, but also to rents and below market price gasoline and heating for everyone
