>Joseph of Cupertino
>Catholic saint from south Italy
>NUMEROUS testimonies and eyewitnesses, Including from learned people, fellow friars, contemporary historical record and even the inquisition which put him on trial claimed he had the miracolous ability to fly
>The inquisition did not claim he was a fraud, Just that it was a product of witchcraft
>He was mentally handicapped and therefore probably couldn't pull off convincing illusions

I do not believe his story at all, But can someone please explain this?
Why do we have such a report from a fairly recent and documented time?
Some explanasions are just ad-hoc or lazy like he was an acrobat or something

There are thousands of stories of miracles from Catholic Europe. Even today people say St. Therese of Lisieux miraculously gave them a rose or filled a room with a rose scent.

I dunno, doesn't seem that weird to me. The earliest accounts don't say he was flying around like superman but was "miraculously" flying up and straight back down again accompanied by a shout. Sounds like he was just jumping, maybe he had some mental issue so it was involuntary. I've come across enough religious "testimonies", some of which I've witnessed, to know that people delude themselves and misinterpret shit, especially if there's a religious community around them predisposed to believe in miracles.

I've seen faith healers lay hands on people and nothing happens, then heard the testimony about it which has morphed into the person immediately feeling better which of course means they were fully healed of their cancer or whatever and not a single doctor could explain it. You can see this type of thought process and re-interpretation happen in real time.

Fairly sure if the dude was jumping in place and shouting every time he jumped, they’d just call him retarded. I can’t imagine there weren’t other people that didn’t act like that and weren’t attributed magical powers. Something must’ve been extraordinary about what others saw him do. Either he had a massive standing jump or he was flying. The highest standing jump was 1.9 meters high and required years of athletic training, so I doubt it being just a high jump.
