they did try to push into the Empire and eventually snatched Franche-Comte, Lorraine, Alsace, and part of Flanders (Dunkerque),as >>18104721 points out
I will also remind you that France did intervene in the 30 years war on the side of protestant princes and the Swedes, singlehandedly keeping the war going. Despite not annexing a large chunk of Imperial land, the French effectively neutralised the Empire as a political entity in the Peace of Westphalia. When Nappy showed up 150 years later the Empire was dissolved by the Habsburgs to prevent Nappy from strong-arming the electors to make him the Holy Roman Emperor if Francis died for any reason

Did you ever commit to this as a foreign invader against one of them in Europa Universalis and they all unite against you? That is why.
>>
>>18104718
look at the map
they were too autistic to let a bunch of snail-consuming amphibians conquer them
>>
Because they would cooperate as a whole in the case of a mutual outside threat.

Cooperative game theory, look it up

It would take far too long to coordinate a defense alliance and by then many territories would have be lost already. Why send expensive soldiers to help some of your shitty neighbors?

the whole point is that the Emperor has a sizable army, and the rich trading cities had not only domestic marksmen but could also afford mercenaries. Not to mention that all princes with the slightest relevance were either involved in their own alliance systems or were in good graces with the Emperor.
>>
>>18104814
Such alliances happened all the time (or rather, usually, people just supported the emperor and the imperial army as they were de jure already obliged to) and that's the main reason the empire didn't bleed more territories than they did.
>>
>>18104814
Damn, you should have been a monarch back then, I'm sure you would've gotten shit done.

Because the Australian Emperors were powerful too. The House of Habsburg defeated the French at times.
>>
>>18104718
They did though

Never in a 1v1, or with german allies only. It was always about the Spanish or British interference more than anything else.

France is weak
