Historically why was china so weak militarily despite regularily fielding armies hundreds of thousands and even over a million men strong? They've been getting ass raped by foreign invaders their entire history that were less than quarter of their size.

Lack of Anglicanism.

Why is there an entire horde of Anglican proselytizers on this board now? Is it just a meme that I’m not familiar with? Or are you trying to convert? What’s unique about Anglicanism compared to Catholicism?

It's hard for peasantoid nations to fight horsechads. Compared to Russia or India or Persia they handled them fairly well

Because they didn't just like Xerxes didn't invade Greece with 300,000 men. You can better estimate the accuracy of battle details based on the overall level of detail in the account
>80,000 men fought 400,000 men and defeated them killing 200,000 and executing 100,000 captives
Probably entirely ficticious numbers and each side could have had 1/10th or fewer soldiers than claimed.

>The Duke of Orleans led 258 knights and 462 other horsemen alongside the count of Maine against the Duke of Saxony with 735 miscellaneous horsemen and defeated them with 2 french knights and 8 french non-knights being killed compared to 68 Germans killed and 29 Germans captured.
Probably very accurate numbers.
