I was reading some of Plato's dialogues recently and it really struck me how there is no negative connotation to dogs at all. In fact Socrates even sees in them the sort of natural inclination for aptitudes that the rulers of a society ought to posses. Contrast this with later texts under Semitic/Abrahamic influences, where dogs are dirty useless things and being compared to one is a great insult. It is quite jarring.
only subhuman evil cultures hate dogs.

>>18107371>>18107375You're a thirdie shitskin, in our countries we don't have stray dogs in the first place. You live in fear of stray dogs because rabies where you live is an actual issue instead of a mythological illness where I'm from. Cats are filthy animals covered in their own spit and litter. My dog eats better food than you and your family BTW.

>>18107247They considered the dog a noble animal, in the same sense you might use that word to reffer to a horse. The Persians went even further, they considered them holy, warding off evil spirits and misfortunes.
>>18107247The Greeks were shepherds and dogs were important and loved for that very reason. City dogs were loved by the decadent wealthy city dwellers that could afford to pamper them.
>>18107683Semitics are shepherds too and hate dogs.
>>18107683>Aristotle wrote about very small dogs from Malta (likely early ancestors of the Maltese breed) who were kept as companions for children and women and the locals believed the body-warmth of could ease various stomach-related afflictions.

>>18107247The Bible had a different linguistic tradition that used dog as a sort of insult, this did not pass on into Christianity's beliefs on the actual animals insofar as they relate to religious dogma or doctrine. This is likely because stray dogs were common in the near east given its level of urbanization and in Christendom there was no hatred for dogs like there is in Islam.
>>18109006Cope.
>>18109006>With the Spread of Christianity the perception of dogs became more ambivalent. Early Christian writers often used dogs metaphorically not as loyal friends, but as symbols of impurity or sin, drawing on Biblical imagery. For example, in the New Testament (Philippians 3:2, Revelation 22:15), “dogs” sometimes refers to outsiders, false teachers, or the unclean. This reinforced a negative connotation in religious and moral discourse. Since dogs had been tied to pagan gods (like Hecate and Asclepius), the Church discouraged or condemned such associations. >People still kept dogs for herding, guarding, and hunting but they lost their spiritual or affectionate symbolism. In art and writing of the early Christian and medieval period, dogs appear mostly in secular or moralizing contexts (e.g., as symbols of greed, vigilance, or humility, depending on the setting).

>>18107247It's an actually interesting question because for Semitic tribes shepherd dogs would have been really useful.
>>18109412The passages in question, dialogue between Socrates and Glaucon:> 'No wonder we can't find the answer, my friend. We have forgotten the example we set up for ourselves.'> 'Explain.'> 'We forgot that there actually are natural dispositions of the kind we have just decided don't exist, dispositions which do contain these opposite qualities.'> 'What are they?'> 'Well, you can find them in a number of animals, but especially in the one we compared with our guardian. You are aware, presumably, that it is the natural disposition of pure-bred dogs to be as gentle as possible to those they know and recognise, and the exact opposite to those they don't know.'> 'Yes, I am.'> 'So such a thing is possible,' I said. 'And in looking for a guardian of this kind, we are not looking for something unnatural.'> 'Apparently not.'> 'In that case, do you think the person who is going to be guardian material needs another quality as well? Do you want him, as well as being spirited and energetic, to be also by temperament a lover of wisdom, a philosopher?'> 'What do you mean? I don't understand.'> 'It's another thing you see in dogs, I replied.' Something which makes you admire the animal.'> 'What's that?'> 'When it sees someone it doesn't know, a dog turns nasty, even though it hasn't been badly treated by him in the past. When it sees someone familiar, it welcomes him, even if it has never been at all well treated by him. Haven't you ever found that rather remarkable?'> 'I'd never really thought about it up to now,' he said. 'But I think there's no doubt a dog does behave like that.'> 'It seems clever, this side of its nature. It seems to show a true love of wisdom.'> 'In what way?'> 'Because,' I replied, 'it classifies what it sees as friendly or hostile solely on the test that it knows one, and doesn't know the other. It means to be a lover of knowledge if it defines friend and enemy by means of knowledge and ignorance.'> 'Yes,' he said, 'it must.'
>>18109467They apparently didn't utilize shepherd dogs, Arabs and Jews tended to their own sheep.
>>18107247The future for Europe and the UK is dogs becoming less and less popular, as muslims become more dominant they will push their demands on the population. Just as they did with halaal for instance, where now almost all meat is halaal. If nothing else the soft harassment you or your family will receive walking the dog will ensure most stop owning them.
>>18107421>Cats are filthy animals covered in their own spit and litterWrong. Cats constantly groom themselves to remove dirt, they poop in litter boxes and avoid using them if their feces were emptied out. Meanwhile dogs require constant baths or else they stink because they rarely groom themselves. They will piss and poop indoors unless you take them outside everyday. They are also more likely to eat feces than cats. It's like cats are adult roommates while dogs are retarded toddlers which require constant babysitting.
>>18110386*avoid using them unless their feces were emptied out.
>>18110386>Cats constantly groom themselves to remove dirtIf I lick myself clean then I'm not actually "clean"; I just am free of debris. And considering how easily cats get fleas compared to dogs, they do a lousy job of grooming. Bonus: if you don't clean their litterbox once a day, they are going to start smelling like it. Not to mention their tracking of litter granules all over your house. >they poop in litter boxes One of the filthiest creations of man. A sand pit full of turds and pee stones that stinks up half of your house. Next time you take shit, dig up a hole, take a dump, and use your hands to cover it. That's what cats do. My dog goes outside, does his business, and is trained to wipe his paws off before entering the house. >Meanwhile dogs require constant baths or else they stink because they rarely groom themselves. >They will piss and poop indoors unless you take them outside everyday. You are unknowingly praising dogs. The vast majority of dogs tolerate bathing/shampoo, which gets them ACTUALLY clean, while the vast majority of cats don't.>They are also more likely to eat feces than cats. Bad breeding or malnutrition. I've never seen my dogs eat shit, although they will admittedly sniff it. Cats eating shit from the bowels of dead birds/rats is different?>It's like cats are adult roommates while dogs are retarded toddlers which require constant babysitting.Cats have like a fourth of the intelligence of your average dog and largely untrainable, requiring management IE cut their balls off or they will mark, yowl, and escape your house, manage a dirt toilet for them, get them multiple scratching posts and perches or they will ruin your furniture. This is pure projection by someone that never learned to how properly care for a dog.
