German adventure fiction has long roots in extremely romanticized native American westerns. The serialized stories about heroic indians or portrayals of native Americans as honorable allies of white protagonists were really popular already by the time Hitler took power.

Even the "Lone Ranger" TV show was called the "Tonto Show" b/c they like him better.
