Did these statues reflect contemporary scarification practices?
Does the decline in artistic quality (after the era of these sorts of sculpts) indicate a breakdown in civilizational cohesion in West Africa?

How could they make all of this but not create any 2 story structures? How old are these?
>>
>>18114178
It is true that the vast majority of Africans lived in single-story huts but come on man there were multistory African houses. I've seen photos of Igbo huts with upper floors. I mean even Papuans could build multistory buildings.
>>
Interestingly, these pieces are very European, even in the pieces themselves. The Benin Bronzes were not made of iron. In fact, most of the finest pieces were made of European metal (technically brass). Ask yourself how European metals reached Benin in the 16th and 18th centuries, and you'll be on the path to wisdom. Interestingly, the red coral worn by the Benin king and chiefs was also introduced to them by the Portuguese, who imported it from the Mediterranean. The Benin people believed the Portuguese were supernatural beings, and they are frequently depicted in Benin art.
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/311507441_Corals_Brass_and_Firearms_Material_Commodities_in_Cultural_Interactions_between_Edo_and_Portuguese_in_Benin_around_1500
>Benin Bronze artworks created by African metalsmiths between the 16th and 19th centuries were made of brass rings produced in Germany’s Rhineland region. These rings were used as currency in the transatlantic slave trade.

Because it is not native in every aspect as the OP and his troupe try to make it seem, there are doubts even about who actually made these pieces. See>>18114251
Basically, all imported from Germany
historians have suggested that 'Ahammangiwa' was a German employed by the Portuguese, which is interesting seeing as the brass used to make the 'Benin bronzes' came from Germany.
a totally dishonest thread... to say the least. but it was good to expose it

Interestingly, something the OP would probably never show is the masks depicting Portuguese heads. The Portuguese seem to have had a huge impact on Benin, see pic.
The Mirror, was introduced to Benin by the Portuguese.

and looking at the early descriptions from primary sources, not from some kind of nationalism, like by Portuguese navigator Duarte Pacheco Pereira, we see that the place wasn't as artistic and advanced as the OP tries to make it seem. But this is a kangz thread, I have more to do. Thanks to everyone who read. And OP, be more honest next time, ok?

>While the source of the materials and the superb artistry of this hunting horn can be attributed to Sierra Leone, certain of its features suggest that it was made by a Bullom or Temne artist for a European client. The positioning of its mouthpiece, its suspension lugs, as well as the scenes of a European hunt carved in relief and most likely based upon European prints all indicate the horn was produced for export. This horn is one of only three surviving horns attributed to the same hand. The heraldic shields and inscriptions carved near its base by this unidentified master artist help narrow the dating of its creation to between 1494 and 1500 and identify it as a royal gift from Crown Prince Manuel I of Portugal to King Ferdinand V of Castile and Aragon.
>West African ivories were coveted luxuries in Europe in the late 15th and 16th centuries and considered worthy as royal gifts. Increased international demand for ivory in subsequent centuries has endangered elephant populations however, giving rise to current international bans on its export and use.

Did I say that? its very obvious to anyone using common sense that the MUSLIM nupa people were influenced by arab brass through trade. Just look at the kettle kang, that's obviously a Arab/Persian inspired desisgn.

If you say so. Anyone who isn't blind can see the similarities. You are denying arab influence when these people are literally following an arab religion kek retard. You've already been btfo with the "Asante" dish. European/Arab influence was prevalent all over west africa even in fucking isolated jungle regions.

>European glass beads were introduced to the Yoruba people through trade starting in the late 18th century and became an integral part of their beadwork, particularly in royal regalia like the beaded crown (Ade). The small, brightly colored "seed beads" imported from Europe, often manufactured in Bohemia, were prized for their uniform size and color variety, especially for colors like blue that were rare naturally. These beads were used to create intricate designs that decorated crowns, tunics, and other items, blending traditional Yoruba symbolism with external influences.

>The site of Igbo Olokun on the northern periphery of Ile-Ife has been recognized as a glass-working workshop for over a century. Its glass-encrusted crucibles and beads were viewed as evidence of secondary processing of imported glass until the high lime, high alumina (HLHA) composition of the glass was recognized as unique to the region. Archaeological excavations conducted at Igbo Olokun recovered more than twelve thousand glass beads and several kilograms of glass-working debris. Fifty-two glass beads from the excavated assemblage were analyzed by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) to understand the chemical characteristics of the Igbo Olokun glass beads in comparison with previously analyzed beads. The analyses affirm the prevalence of HLHA glass beads, and provide firm evidence of a new compositional group characterized by low lime, high alumina (LLHA); no imported soda-lime glass beads were among the analyzed samples.

>The evidence from crucibles indicates that LLHA glass was worked together with HLHA glass at Igbo Olokun and may have been made locally as part of the same technological tradition. Most likely, granitic sand with or without added calcium carbonate was used to produce these two types of glass, and colorants rich in MnO, Fe2O3, CuO, and CoO were intentionally added.

The beadwork you provided earlier uses European glass beads stop lying you piece of shit these >>18117521 are not the beads used in typical Yoruba beadwork they are inferior.

>>18117521
So far africans developed their own bead working Hapa said europeans introduced it in the 17th century his own source says they didn’t that they traded beads for stuff but that the yoruba have had their tradition for centuries but also arabs introduced it

>>
>>18117559

>>
>>18117563
no they were just mass produced thus cheaper

>>18117554
>it was inferior
No it really wasn’t you said the bead was introduced by europeans it wasn’t mass produced cheap beads aren’t superior don’t get were this coming from pedro
>>
>>18117557
>Crowns are now decorated with brilliantly colored glass beads, which have been imported from Europe probably since the mid-17th century
https://www.si.edu/object/crown%3Anmafa_94-1-1

here's a challenge for you show me glass bead working using these indigenous beads and provide sources proving they were made locally.
Yoruba always used European glass beads because they were uniformly shaped and versatile vastly superior to the primitive shit they made.
>>
>>18117570
>no they were just mass produced thus cheaper
Lmao such cope these >>18117521 beads would not look good in bead work because they are crude, not uniformly shaped and probably too large. As you can see they just made primitive ooga booga necklaces with them
