How did this happen?
>>18119805Christianity
>>18119808I think you're right because Christians would see all this architecture as pointless and frivolous
>>18119808It's almost like the russian revolution and Christianity sort of being like an early form of communism that destroyed the empire from within.

>>18119808>>18119812>>18119814>>18119824What the fuck? Are you fucking retarded? Christianity came after the crisis of the 3rd century and Constantine used it to help reunify Rome. It can't possibly be the cause. You are obviously just saying this as you stand with Israel and believe that Christianity is highly "antisemitic".
>>18119833that's a spammer
>>18119833No I think Christianity is a kike religion that has weakened Europe causing us to become cucks who turn the other check while hordes of subhumans invade our continent
>>18119828>Park It's a post apocalyptic ruin with primitive medieval villages are where once great monuments stood. To Christians monumental architecture was le vain and ebil they had to turn a great forum into a ghetto for le poor poverty stricken children of god. Litterally a communist Jewish religion
>>18119851Maybe if you make 1000 more shill threads it will become true.
>>18119833Aurelian already unified the empire before. Constantine merely wanted to make everyone the “same”.
yk im gonna say it right and these pics,>>18119812>>18119814Look WAY better than Rome at it's peak
>>18119812>>18119814Also what do you want? Random working people after a hard days work to spend their precious free time to look after buildings that served others.
>>18119805it was much worse than in this picture. It was completely underground, and the city was likely entirely abandoned at some point.
>>18119805When the roman empire fell Rome became destitute, basically a ghost town, from over a million people to around 30k. So no one was really around to maintain this.

>>18119814its retarded comparison on many levels
>>18119805>city grows to host a million inhabitants over the centuries, then shrinks down to less than 30kWhat exactly is surprising about the abandoned bits becoming overgrown?
>>18119805Lack of maintenance + people stripping parts of the structure for materials
>>18119812>Christians would see all this architecture as pointless and frivolous>basilicas literally get their name from christians repurposing existing roman architecture
>>18119805Sovl-ification.
>>18120993>I'm disappointed that I'll probably never live to see a modern American metro area return to the forestGo to Detroit, a lot of abandoned industrial complexes are already overgrown.
>>18119805A big part of it was inequalities in wealth>the roman elite gain more and more land until a few families own close to all of it>the rest of the romans are either tenants, sharecroppers or slaves>diolectian bounds those tenants to their land and makes professions hereditary, planting the seeds to serfdom >the roman elites grow powerful and disinterested in urban life. They no longer give back to society as a part of their civic participation>they are able to avoid tax collection, weakening the central government even further>urbanism dwindles, small decentralized communities in the countryside grow stronger>bam middle ages
The city was bankrupt and there weren’t enough people around to justify the use of so many huge buildings. It wasn’t as if the city didn’t try to protect these buildings, they did. There was actually a proposal to renovate and restore the Colosseum for tournaments when Charlemagne came to be crowned in the city but this was abandoned because it was prohibitively expensive. There were also civil laws in place to protect old Roman buildings from being looted for stone but a lot of people just ignored these since there was no one around to enforce them anyways. Earthquake’s did a lot of damage like in 1349 when a big quake destroyed one side of the Colosseum and in 847 when a quake brought down the Basilica of Maxentius. Even the ancient Romans had to periodically rebuild things, the Parthenon was reconstructed several times for instance. It’s hard to keep something standing for 500 years with no money.
