I'll add that Jesus' sacrifice (the atonement for sins) literally confirms the extremely strange workings of the world and its rules. That is, sacrifice can atone for sins. That is, animal sacrifices and other sacrifices (well, you get the idea) can atone for sins, and perhaps even bring profit, just like the pagans asked the gods for something by slaughtering thousands of cows, horses, goats, and so on.
