Historians who cite the Declarations of Causes to assert the primacy of slavery as a cause of the Civil War, generally fail to note that at least ten Northern free states passed legislative resolutions in December 1860 and January 1861 to explain their objections to Southern secession. Not one stated any wish to abolish Southern slavery. The most consistent complaint was against the breakup of the Union. Thus, Northerners chiefly went to war in order to avoid the economic consequences of disunion. ~ Philip Leigh
>>18121478"Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; learn from Northern school books THEIR version of the war, and taught to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects of derision."~ Major General Patrick R. CleburneHe was right
Don't be mad Romans, you're just pussies
>>18121478>not understanding the difference between abolitionism and anti slaverymost northerners didnt want slavery affecting the northern work force.I wont spend any more time acknowledging klantards
>>18121478So Leigh is saying that because the Northern states didn't focus on slavery as a cause of the war in their writings that the war wasn't caused by slavery? That makes no sense. It is in the Confederate Constitution and every single declaration of succession. Plain as fucking day. I am a Southerner and a race realist, but the Confederates were traitorous losers. I say this as an old-stock WASP whos ancestors fought for the CSA, it's just true dude. The non-planter class of the South was duped and duped hard
>>18121478>>18121540>>18121559This is all very silly. Yes, if there was no slavery in the mid 19th-century there would be no civil war, since slavery caused the friction in the union. However it doesn't mean the war was fought "for/against slavery", it was fought because of the friction in the union. When the Biden administration ordered the Texas government not to arrest illegal immigrants and Texas openly defied them, some liberals and leftists called for a civil war, often mentioning the Confederacy and bringing out their favorite Sherman memes. Why bring up the Confederacy? Where's all the slavery, I thought the civil war was all about it?
>>18121559The funniest part of the Civil War was that the people who ended up forcing slavery on all states and territories were the good guys.
The radical Republicans said it was all about slavery and Lincoln was their candidate, also Kansas was having pro and anti slavery war
>>18121572This is like saying that because the radical French revolutionaries eventually got their way it means most of the supporters of the revolution wanted to abolish the monarchy.
>>18121478The Confederates were retards and the Union was absolutely based for taking them out. They chimped out because new states populated by people with IQs above 100 didn't want anything to do with their antiquated economic system (which would have completely collapsed by the end of the century anyway due to industrialization) and then they launched a ridiculous rebellion. If the Southerners had gotten their way the US would have never become a superpower and we'd have a giant third world shithole occupying a huge portion of the continent, one so impoverished and violent that it would make Mexico look like a great civilization. The Union's only mistake is that they didn't kill every single Southerner and repopulate the land with people who aren't inbred, since the South continues to drag America down to this very day.
>>18121579The South was only le backwards agrarian region when compared to the North and Britain. In reality had the Confederates lasted they would have been in the top 5 most industrially advanced states in the world.
>>18121572>The radical Republicans said it was all about slaveryIt was. When they won, they made slavery legal everywhere.
>>18121478TRVTHNUKE
>>18121572>Lincoln was their candidateNot really, he was a compromise candidate between the radical abolitionists and anti-expansionist free-soilers/crypto whigs who made up the Republican coalition
>>18121478DO IT AGAIN UNCLE BILLY
>>18122690Don't forget they hate America, they hate heritage Americans from both sides of the civil war, and they only talk about it to signal their fake patriotism and their hostility to their current-day enemies.
>>18121478American history was complete in 1961. Lee and Lincoln were seen as national heroes despite their opposition during the war. Opposing views are part of the fabric of a shared heritage. Destroying your history is the equivalent of destroying your country.
>>18123802Most people who roleplay as civil war firebrands in 2025 are people without heritage dating back to the civil war. Thus it is not their history that they're destroying, and subconsciously they know it.
