Suicide is evolutionarily beneficial in some scenarios. When there is a useless member of a group that cannot add to the groups strength or collect resources then its best if that member dies somehow for the sake of its group. It would just consume precious resources otherwise which is a big concern for most species. The other members could just kill this useless member but if the useless member fights back and injuries/kill the useful members of the group, its not ideal. It would be best if that useless member took itself out
