Reminder that nearly everything we know about Norse mythology comes from the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, both of which were written down two centuries after Christianization by Christian authors and its clear Christian influence was inserted into the stories (why else do you think the story of Odin hanging from Yggdrasil is so similar to that of Jesus on the cross), the prologue of the Prose Edda even begins with the famous line “In the beginning God created heaven and earth.” Not only that, but the prologue of the Prose Edda also makes use of Euhemerism, a practice where medieval Christian writers claimed that pagan gods were actually mortals deified after death in an attempt to de-legitimize pagan religions, and several stories in the Prose Edda have layers of Euhemerism to them.

“Norse mythology” is not the actual mythology of the Norse, it’s just a heavily Christianized and Euhemerized retelling of it.

It's the best we have, and these are written sources from people who were pagans only a few generations ago, in addition to the oral tradition still being in effect... it's much better than courses that teach you to be "pagan" or some crap like that. Do you have a better source? No? Then there's nothing to complain about.

Odin hangong on yggdrasil is not a christian invention and only midwits with a cursory knowledge of germabic history ever say this. Tacitus reported that the germans hanged and stabbed offerings to 'mercury' in germania and there are numerous descriptions of this exact same ritual sacrifice committed in the nordic sagas. The gauls even had a deity, mentioned by caesar, named esus, whom the gauls would hang and flog men as offerings to. Its more likely your christian cult appropiated these elements

Perhaps not, but there is Christian influence involved. And things get worse when everything we have of Odin dates back to the Middle Ages.

I don't understand what is wrong with worshipping the 19th century romanticist depiction of paganism. People from back then had their own form of paganism different from today. Religions evolve over time like hinduism, buddhism, zoroastrianism, christianity, judaism and even islam. And regarding any christian influences. Christianity has lots of pagan influences especialy platonic and hellenistic ones. Islam has lots of arab pagan influences. Judaism is mostly a often retconned henotheistic version of old canaanite and other middle eastern paganism. Why is it bad that modern paganism has some christian influences?

>muh christian influence in the codex regius
doesn't exist. Show me an example and I'll show you that you're a retard. For example:
>why else do you think the story of Odin hanging from Yggdrasil is so similar to that of Jesus on the cross
Runatal in Havamal (the poem that describes Odin's self-sacrifice) depicts a quest for seeking enlightenment. Odin died and lived again for wisdom of the cosmos, and he gained that wisdom through sacrificing something. It's similar to Odin sacrificing his eye for knowledge. Jesus gained nothing on the cross as he was already perfect.

I used to dislike 19th century romantic art of the gods for being inauthentic or whatever autistic shit but now that marvel and tumblr dnd cringe shit has flooded the market, this is so much more soulful
