It's the religious belief that if you are wealthy and handsome, you are clearly chosen and loved by God.
Think prosperity gospel, but extended.
Also, USA is a country where "optics" decide all. It's a country which is heavily conman-coded. A person might be utter shit, but as long as he is somewhat attractive and "charismatic", the herd will follow him.
