in fairness to trudeau his genuine goal was a sort of melting pot utopia where everyone merged into a united "Canadian" identity, he initially pushed assimilation for natives and vehemently fought against a separate quebecois identity. he was also a firm believer in the supremacy of the federal government over the provinces which given all the fuckups and controversies since thanks to all the power the provinces have was the right idea.
