Btw Dutch people are literally just swamp Germans. Lower German was closer to Dutch then it is to Lower German, from which Standard German comes from. Lower Germans used standard as their literary language, while Dutch used their own, so Lower Germans became assimilated while Dutch didn't.

The word Dutch literally is the same as Deutsch. "Netherlands" is just the Dutch word for low countries (which of course includes many non Dutch french), its a geographic term not an ethnic one. Historically people called modern Netherlands Lower Germany, and in English the word Dutch was used to refer to both the Netherlands and Germany in the time of Shakespeare.

It was pure strategy. Denmark secures the Baltic. The Low Countries were necessary to circumvent the Maginot and secure forward airfields.
