Reading this at the moment. Is it outdated? Any better books to read if I want to learn about Japanese history.

Cambridge History of [Insert Shit Here] tends to be encyclopedic as fuck in terms of presenting their narratives. What they put out can be outdated but at least the general facts are there.

I can't say the same for Cambridge History of China, however, as the opening of Changland since Mao croaked plus Archaeology there only starting up by the late 70s gave Western researchers knew insights on China.
