Why did the Turks fail to conquer Western Europe? What were the historical reasons?
>>
>>18175812
Because prior to the modern world the non-med parts of Europe were a frozen shithole with no riches and not worth the hassle. Same reason the arabs didn’t really bother going further into Europe(Tours was a raid, not an attempt to conquer and hold territory)

Yeah unlike the interior of Asia Minor or all of Arabia lmao. France was a dump!

>Why did Alexander fail to conquer Japan?

>Europe advanced technologically and militarily while Turks stagnated
>Iranians kept them busy enough that they couldn't dedicate all their effort to conquering Europe
>The empire and Spain were ruled by the same dynasty and able to combine their capabilities to help contain the Ottomans
>With the discovery of the Americas and alternative routes to Asia the Ottoman control over trade and with it wealth declined

The answer is the New World and the Spanish Hapsburg navy. Yes there were technological reasons but they were minor during the siege of Vienna. The Ottomans were at the heartland of Hapsburg lands. The Hapsburgs bounced back thanks to Poland and later Russia intervening. But it was the battle of Lepanto that kept the Mediterranean from becoming an Ottoman lake. The Safavid wars were important but not decisive and the Ottomans won several wars against them. The main problem was Spain becoming too great of a naval power and were never able to challenge them again. Conquering Vienna would not have solved this crucial problem for them and would have created overstretched supply lines.

The battle of Lepanto, and siege of Vienna.

Also protestants ultimately failed in their attempts to sabotage unified Catholic resistance against the Turks.
Not before untold damage was done though, millions were kidnapped and sold into either sex slavery or a slow death rowing galleys, entire coastal villages disappeared overnight. And this went on for centuries, with nary a single fuck given by the schismatics for those they no longer considered to be fellow Christians.

>Rather Turk than papist.

Also this.
The age of exploration was kicked off by the Turkish capture of Constantinople, which cut off European trade routes with the east.

They were looking for an alternative route when they discovered America's existence.
OFC it had been known to various Irish, Bretons, and Norse for some time previously but that didn't stop the news from being a surprise to others.

And so the new world gradually eclipsed the old.
