What triggered the Mexican-American War?
>>
States' rights

Texas wanted Independence from Mexico and looked to the US for support.

Whites from Spain arguing with whites from America over which of them owned the land north of the rio grande.

Dixoids wanted to bring their pet niggers into Mexican Texas under the empresario system. Mexican government said no. Texans took advantage of local federalist revolts to co-opt the local tejano anti-centralist sentiment. Those same tejanos proceeded to be displaced and segregated as a thank you from their Texian "brothers". Mexico chimped out and invaded. America intervened and then curbstomped Mexico.

>Spain is a thorn in the US's side
>has spies in the highest levels of US government in charge of the most strategic areas in the US
>lets blacks and natives launch raids into the US from Florida
>belligerent and conspires to buy large plots of land to make a rump state if not retake the whole Louisiana purchase
>invites US southerners into Texas to chase off natives because Mexicans are fucking useless
>Mexicans immediately launch a revolution and demand concessions from the Americans
>nah fuck you
>gets the shit beaten out of them because they're mestizo/indio losers and suck and are addicted to opium, weed and booze and belong in a swamp

Yes, because the battle for states' rights was a revival of the early-modern conflict between the rising bourgeoisie (commies do not own this word btw) and the old aristocracy, with states' rights representing the interests of the latter in America, while business magnates wanted a more centralized form of government. This was a war fought on behalf of the planters, though unfortunately for them the North ended up illegally stealing all of the land they fought for anyway. The South provoked a war to increase its power, and the North would do the same thing to them shortly after.

This board is the only place I actually see people try to portray the war to free slaves, give them the vote, and place them in positions of power over white men as being somehow the pro-white, right-wing position. It must just be a few Indians posting this all day, because everywhere else I post everyone acknowledges Lincoln's war was an unmitigated catastrophe for America. At least this one low-effort psyop isn't gaining any ground.

The Mexicans revolted against Spain you black nigger, Texas was the culmination of Spain's colonial history. They wanted to stop the US east of the Mississippi but that failed, they wanted to make a rump state in Alabama or Mississippi to stop US expansion. Aaron Burr probably wanted to move into Texas and start a separate US after the Democrat-Republicans failed to stop the Federalists sucking up to England, which is why he shot Hamilton. Spain inviting Americans into Texas was their last ditch play to stay relevant in the region but most of their stationed troops in Mexico defected and Mexico was never again relevant.

The Mexican–American War (1846–1848) was triggered by a combination of long-standing tensions and an immediate military confrontation. The key causes were:

1. Annexation of Texas (1845)

Mexico had never recognized the independence of Texas after it broke away in 1836. When the United States annexed Texas in 1845, Mexico viewed this as an act of aggression and a theft of its territory.

2. Dispute over the Texas–Mexico Border

The U.S. claimed the border was the Rio Grande.
Mexico insisted it was the Nueces River, about 150 miles north.
This left a large strip of land—the Nueces Strip—claimed by both countries.

3. Polk’s Expansionist Policy (“Manifest Destiny”)

U.S. President James K. Polk was committed to expanding U.S. territory to the Pacific. He attempted to buy California and New Mexico from Mexico, but Mexico refused even to meet with the U.S. envoy.

4. The Spark: Clash at the Rio Grande (April 25, 1846)

Polk sent General Zachary Taylor and U.S. troops into the disputed territory between the Nueces and the Rio Grande. Mexico viewed this as an invasion of its land.

Mexican cavalry attacked a U.S. patrol, killing or capturing about a dozen soldiers. Polk declared that:

“American blood has been shed on American soil.”

Congress accepted his argument, and war was declared on May 13, 1846.

In short

The war was triggered by the U.S. annexation of Texas, a border dispute, and a deliberate move by the U.S. to provoke a military incident in contested territory, which finally occurred at the Rio Grande.

If you’d like, I can also summarize the major battles, consequences, or the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

The post-polk political coup is pretty interesting
