>is called the Hundred Years’ War>lasted more than 100 years>isn’t even a single conflict, but a series of conflicts broken up by truces>isn’t even that unique as the Kingdom of England has been fighting wars against the Kingdom of France since the Normans invaded England>the HYW wasn’t even the last time England and France would fight with truces in betweenWho the fuck named this thing? Why not call all of it the Seven Hundred Years’ War? (1109 to 1815)
>>18176403>ignores that HYW has a clear start (1337) and end (1453)>it is a single dynastic conflict over the French throne>later wars are completely different causes and contextsBy your logic WW2 is just a truce in the 30 Years War 2.0

>>18176403Solely because some french guy in the 19th century thought it was a cool name so contrived to make it a thing (he wasn't wrong)
>>18176410It did’t start over the claim though. It started over the same shit as the wars before, over the King of England’s lands in France. Edward III claiming the throne wasn’t serious; it was a diplomatic play to get allies and make the King of France fuck off. Serious claims for the throne of France proper only came much later, like with Henry V.
