Because Gandalf was financially in debt and owned by his subversive Maiar like a kippah and wanted the Gondor empire to collapse by prolonging the war.Keep in mind that Gandalf was a drunken gambler 24/7 and his estate in Valinor was paid for by Manwe'stein and his money lenders in exchange for prolonging the war.They had no reason to distrust Sauron since Sauron never wanted war and tried to end the war on day one but Gondor was in bad faith asserting itself between Mordor and Mirkwood business.
