Holy Roman Empire is the natural conclusion of WRE, irrespective of whether or not you believe there was a throughline of administration between the two.

Vargbrain, or Medieval """""Studies""""" major?

I definitely don't give a shit about Varg, do you understand that that doesn't even make sense? HOLY Roman Empire and Varg don't really correlate...

Rome is so overrated

Nordicists
>>

Not OP but not every conjecture that even slightly paints Germanic speakers in an arguably "favorable" light is nOrDiCiSm; and opposing anything that does actually fastens nordicists in their beliefs and frankly the objective reality of how history turned out does sort of exonerate them.
>>

The Holy Roman Empire is both nord and med
It is the empire of the sons of Rome

I have no strong opinions about the subject matter of this thread

The Holy Roman Empire was the continuation of the Western Roman Empire, and the German and Austrian Empires were the continuations of the Holy Roman Empire. Similarly, the Byzantine Empire was the continuation of the Eastern Roman Empire, and the Ottoman Empire was the continuation of the Byzantine Empire. Therefore, the Central Powers of WWI consisted of the three legitimate heirs of Rome.
>>
>>18221637
As tired as this is going to sound; Ottomans CERTAINLY do not count.
>>
>>18221672
They took over the capital and core territories of Byzantium and the Sultans called themselves "Kaisar i-Rum," "Caesar of the Romans." If the Western barbarians who conquered Rome could go on to rule its successor, why not the Eastern ones?
>>
>>18221637
>ottomans
just obvious bait but I am a monkey
they are a people with the maximum linguistic distance, no historical relationship beyond FULL antagonisms, they did not integrate into their ethnicities did not feature in Byzantine high offices or live among their citizens, Russia literally has a better claim to Byzantine succession than the Ottomans, and it takes someone with a very narrow and childlike map painting understanding of history (or an agenda) to identify the Ottomans as a Roman successor.
>>
>>18221690
Because many "Western Barbarians" lived as Romans and held Roman high office, and later zealously conformed to the spirituality of the Empire. See: Stilicho, Arbogast, etc.
Moreover the Barbarians did more than "call themselves" Emperor, they were coronated by the Bishop of Rome. If indeed Turks acted as aggressors of circumstance and then integrated and later held the reigns of power (and yes, converted) instead of invading ceaselessly in the name of mohammed; until the byzantine polity no longer existed... then maybe. Do we call Queen Victoria the Mughal Emperor?

Finally- an actual meme on this forsaken board.

There is no such thing a Med. What people are calling Med are Arabs and Gypsies who came in during the medieval period. In a millennium Europe is going to dump all of their peoples into Britain and Britanno is going to refer to Indian-Arab-Negroid mixtures.
>>
>>18221721
Then...what do you call the people living on the European side of the Mediterranean during the Bronze and Iron age?
>>
>>18221704
By your logic Rome died when it converted to nailed jew cult

>Queen Victoria the Mughal Emperor?
Did she move the capital to Delhi?

Romans and Greeks beg to disagree
>>
>>18221823
No it doesn't, because it's the same people. There's no argument to be had here. Pagan Rome and Christian Rome are the same polity, using very similar imagery, theres cultural continuity, it wasn't an invasion or otherwise hostile event.
Bottom line so you understand it; ottomans did not contribute to the glory of rome they desecrated its descendents out of sheer hatred and jealousy, much like what muslims do in europe now, ottomans/seljuks/turks are equal in filth to any pakistani or somalian, not inheritors of western empires.

Entirely thanks to the west, you are a parasite.

through right of conquest, the last roman empire is the ethiopian empire that defeated italy

>Romans: "We came from the lands of Veneti in the Baltic and western Russia."
>Greeks: "We came from abroad, even our autochthonous groups came from north of Raetia; the Dorians came last and lived among the blonde haired pale Scythians."

You're gambling that no one is going to read the classics when you say something like that.

Through right of legitimate succession, the last Roman Empire is Finland. Rome fell and Byzantium succeeded it, Byzantium fell and Russia succeeded it, and then Russia fell to the communists and the only major territory to remain under Christian control was the Grand Duchy of Finland. Therefore, if Russia was the Third Rome, Finland is the Fourth Rome.

Stop this nonsense. Haploautism can only take you so far. Both Nord and Med share a common ancestry to some extent and both are autochthonous.

>cites mythological origins
>guess scots are Egyptian too.
>limited understanding of how europe and the rest of the globe were peopled to begin with, following this throughline of reasoning, no ethnicities exist at all
>NO respect for the fact that some of this, particularly the Greek citation is just a geographic relativity but stems from a vague memory of their PIE speaking linguistic and cultural forbears.
