Let me explain. The idea that the Trinity or the biblical canon were chosen in the Council of Nicaea is pure nonsense. Constantine himself was sympathetic towards Arianism and was baptized by an Arian. He had no theological knowledge whatsoever so he couldn't just force the bishops (who 20 years before that had been fleeing massacre by emperors Diocletian and Galerius) to accept doctrines contrary to the ones they were dying for. He actually just wanted turmoil to stop between Christian sects, as much as in the end he weaponized ChristianityJustinian, on the contrary, was a fanatic that wanted to be able to control a vast empire, one in which religious unity would be important. So he had to use it to control his people. Let's not forget this guy thought he was the most important man of the universe. He kidnapped two popes (allowing one of them to starve to death) so he believed himself to be the highest religious authority although he was a layman. He basically let Rome and Italy starving and the great city lost 90% of its population very much because of his cruelty. And last, he anathematized Origen, the greatest Church Father, who happened to believe Apokatastasis. Now everyone thinks that eternal conscious torment was always the standard view of Christianity. I'm yet to find where in the Bible it is said that "the wages of sin is eternal hell" but yeah, thank you, Justinian.
I think you meant Theodosius I.Don't worry, you're forgiven, because fuck Justinian since he was instrumental for the fall of Byzantium.
>>18221678The Edict of Thessalonica (Greek: Διάταγμα της Θεσσαλονίκης), issued on 27 February AD 380 by Theodosius I, made Nicene Christianity[note 1] the state church of the Roman Empire.[2][3][4] It condemned other Christian creeds such as Arianism as heresies of "foolish madmen", and authorized their punishment.[5]This might explain why Arian Barbarians like the goths and vandals succeeded in raiding Rome. They were helped by persecuted Roman arians. Theodosius remains the worst Roman emperor to have ever lived and nobody knows his origin, I wouldn’t he surprised if he was some crypto Jew.
>>18221686Byzantium decline because of Heraculius
>>18221772Heraculius is the only reason there was a rome afterwards left at all plus he was easily a S+ tier emperor. Defeated persia so badly while under supplied and outnumbered that khosrow was overthrown and executed causing persia to be in one of its worst civil wars. The arabs took it for free after because persia was structurally on fire already. The roman empire did lose a lot of territory sadly because there was legit like 5 people in the army left after the war. Keep in mind, heraclius started off with very little to work with. The emperor before him phocas was legit one of the worst emperors in romes history. Mass executions of roman elites and military officials. As well letting the east fall to Persia basically for free, revolts happening throughout the empire, the balkans were getting raped, famines and riots inside the capital
>>18221678Fuck Justinian the simp.Fuck theodora the whore.Fuck Narses the eunuch.Fuck Belisarius's whore wife.Justice for General BELISARIVS.
>>18221678Origen is great, but wouldn't the biggest figures for Apokatastasis be the core saints who embraced it like Saint Clement, Saint Gregory of Nyssa, Saint Isaac of Nineveh? Origen is considered a heretic for reasons other than his universalism.

>>18221678>but yeah, thank you, Justinianeven God Almighty hated him, that's why he sent volcanic winter and subsequent plague, effectively ending roman empire once and for all.
>>18222689Because he was a demon sent by satan to empty the treasury Emperor Anastasius worked so hard to fill. After the coffers were empty the slow decline of the Roman empire began.

Bump
>>18221769Alright, genuine question, what would have prompted a late Empire Roman to become an Arian as opposed to a Catholic?I understand the barbarians, they were specifically converted by Arian missionaries, but what was the raison d'etre of Roman Arians?
>>18223748kek
>>18224650>but what was the raison d'etre of Roman Arians? It was the imperially supported Christianity from Constantine to Valens, not in name but in practice. Theodosius was placed in charge of the East by Gratian while it was majority Arian. The West was majority Nicean and Constantius II never pressed that hard in the West and Valentinian simply didn't care.
