Then, in a second phase, these researchers (or their followers) changed the focus of their work to demonstrate the Nordic origin of Germanic populations and civilization. These results were soon deliberately exploited in the debate on German identity that raged throughout the nineteenth century>In 1819, Friedrich Schlegel coined the term Aryans to designate the invaders from India, from the Sanskrit arya, translated as noble>In The Aryan Myth: The History of Racist and Nationalistic, Leon Poliakov explained that the chief promoter of the myth of an Aryan race at the beginning of the nineteenth century was Friedrich Schlegel (1754 – 1819), who was married to Dorothea Mendelssohn, daughter of Moses Mendelssohn, leader of the Haskalah, or Jewish Enlightenment, and a purported successor of the false-messiah Sabbatai Zevi. Contrary to popular assumption, the outlandish racial theories of the Nazis were not a new development, but rather, the entire aspirations of their regime derived from a tradition of German nationalism that dated back to Romantic era of the early nineteenth century, which was influenced by the occult legends of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. In 1884 a Jewish Freemason named Joseph Schorst (alias of Théodore Joseph Schapiro) sold Justine a manuscript copy of the Protocols (written in French) for 2,500 francs. Fry believed that Schorst had smuggled this copy of the Protocols out of the archives of one of the Mizraïm Masonic Lodges in Paris. According to records in the archives of the Sûreté (French Secret Police), Schorst eventually fled to Egypt, where he was murdered. This manuscript of the Protocols then supposedly found its way (through a very convoluted and questionable route) into the hands of Sergei Nilus
