Was Oskar really THAT bad? I saw some time ago on twitter some guy defending him because, according to him, most of the things that we know about what Dirlewanger did on WW2 were made up by Konrad Morgen, but we have many other sources that say that this guy was a fucking demon. What's your opinion on this, anons?

>>18222893If we go by scale, the Unit certainly made a stand for their reputation. Around 60.000 civilians are attributed to the kill count of the Brigade. However the Brutality seems to have been exegerated, most complaints about the Dirlewanger brigade I could find had more to do with Discipline problems, disregard for German law and the senseless killings in the Ghetto. But the war crimes by themselves were not noteworthy. What have been done by the Dirlewanger Brigade was also a regular occurence by other Einsatzgruppen, the only unique crime they seem to have done was the poisoning of civilians.
