>read the first book of Kings from the Old Testament>literal DBZ fight of Yahweh vs BaalPeople unironically died over this shit
A lot of epics from the bronze age to the early medieval period was just shounen shit. Several stanzas hyping up a brave warrior or powerful beast just so they can job to the protagonist who is an even braver warrior blessed by god/the gods.
>>18222917>>literal DBZ fight of Yahweh vs BaalHuh? It never even implies that Baal actually exists. In the entire text Baal speaks no words, takes no actions, and is credited with doing nothing. It exists solely as an inert idol. 1 Kings 14:9 even outright says that the people "make" other gods. It's quite clear that these aren't actual beings. 2 Kings 19:18 (and remember that, like chapters, dividing Kings into two separate works is a modern thing, 1 and 2 Kings are one and the same book) outright says "and have put their gods into fire, for they are no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone". I cannot fathom how you got such a reading out of anything in Kings.
>>18222952OP here, i m retard sorry
What a shart of a thread.
>>18222952Not OP but explain what happened when Mesha sacrifices his son to Chemosh without Chemosh being real.
>>18223360Ancient Jews legitimately (and perhaps still do) believed that human sacrifices were powerful acts. Mesha sacrificing his son gave him a victory over the Israelites, but it was considered wicked, and that is why it is forbidden in the Torah. You will find though that YHWH constantly threatens to turn people into a living sacrifice (למלך) in Ge Hinnom, such as the King of Assyria, which is where offerings used to be made in his name just outside the walls of Jerusalem. When the Abrahamic religions talk about hell, whether they call it Gehinnom, Gehenna, or Jahannam, they are talking about an actual place of child sacrifice. It would be no different than threatening to send someone to Auschwitz to be incinerated. It's a sick religion.
>>18223360What of it, exactly? Something doesn't need to be real for you to sacrifice to it.
