Just a reminder how nasty Islam actually is, when a country is conquered the defeated are given a choice either to convert, to pay the tax, or to get killed. From the current middle class perspective, everyone just assumes he'd simply pay the symbolic tax and remain a Christian or whatever. Very noble from Islam, yes? Actually no, most people in any society couldn't afford to pay it, and their choice pretty much boiled down to convert or die. Now some chose to die, but those who converted, they now found themselves in a position to be served and financed by those whom they served before. Not only that, but they could abuse them as well, loot their homes, rape their daughters etc. Even further, once converted they would need to prove themselves to be true to their new religion, and as Islam forbids picture and statues, it would be these once poor ex-Christians who would be the first in line to smash and burn churches, graveyards, etc. Meanwhile those have not would be the most pious during Christian period as Christianity praises poverty. So Islam really aims to pervert and humiliate those people, exploiting the worse out of them. If that is not demonic I don't know what is. Truly bargaining with the devil.
