Going by the English pronunciation as in goes you'd get something like Gobbles, or as in Amoeba you'd get Gibbles. Both of which are not only wrong, but also just sound very silly to an English speaker. So they put an extra R in to smooth out the word and make it sound more "proper" and "German" So it could be worse
