Tell me about Qur’ān translations. I have the Saheeh International version which I got from a street preacher.

It would be better to read one of the more neutral academic translations, like Abdel-Haleem, Arberry, Droge, The Study Quran, etc.

>>18224688It's disappointing how uninspired most English Quran translations are. The only mainstream one I've read that possesses any majesty is Marmaduke Pickthall's 1930 translation. It was the first translation done by a native english muslim and it shows with more poetic, archaic and masterful english. Some others are so plain and awkward that only those with basic english comprehension would find especially worthy. Native speakers will benefit from a translation that uses full depth of the language and more importantly actually flows well. With that in mind I've heard some good things about "The Qur'an: A Verse Translation" and "The Noble Qur’an – a New Rendering of its Meaning in English".

No matter what, the content is going to be very thin stories with two-dimensional characters, mostly taken from the Bible so you already know them, interspersed with how strong Allah is and how he's going to fry everyone in Hell. For dozens of Surahs in a row.When I listened to the Koran it was Arabic and then the Pickthall translation was read, and it was a major drag to get through.

But I think they're just making it up since it sounded like some random folk song you might hear sung. Definitely not the striking beauty they hyped it up as having.
