Europe is now in the midst of a period of extended peace the likes of which it has never been seen before because of American influence. Only a foreign superpower like the United States can keep Europe truly at peace and unified, because otherwise we'd just see some other country within Europe trying to become a regional hegemon and pushing for Federalization, leading to conflicts of interests and we're now back to square one.
