>>18225875It doesn't matter, the reason the South supported slavery was simply because slave owners had all the money and influence to subvert Southern politics in their favor to protect their own interests. If slavery ever ended in the south, their interests would likely just shift to reunification with the mainland US since at that point there was literally no point in having the South be independent and without slavery, commercial enterprise in the south becomes less convenient without easy access to northern markets. Basically slavery is the sole reason the South existed as an independent entity, and if you don't believe me, I suggest reading the The Declaration of Causes of Seceding States from southern states. Slavery is mentioned in the second paragraph of Georgia's declaration for example
