They invented the Dark Ages to cover up the fact that there was NOTHING before then. The proof is that it's all too convenient and neat. Kings and empires are too well documented, no blood, no dirt, just orderly records in neat and tidy books. But who made the books? Exactly. You can't count on the story, the story was made up to make up for a lack of story, which is what the history books are full of. That's why I can't trust the story of the Bible or any other book, especially any book written by an educated person.
