He has a funny gnome beard.
>>
i don't get why this book is so controversial
i read it and its just a basic overview of human geography and anthropological stuff
he never says anything crazy or off the wall, lefties say its racist even though like half the point of his book is literally "race is meaningless"
and i guess chuds hate it because it says white people only "got lucky"
>>
>>18244308
I think it's because he still glorifies European civilization. If Marx had said the same thing it would have been the greatest peice of Marxist text.
>>

>>18244320
SJWs hate it because it frames European supremacy as inevitable
Rightoids hate it because it frames said superiority as not being genetic
Actual historians and archeologists hate it because it overgeneralizes and cherrypicks shit and makes big and basic errors about some stuff (especially the Spanish conquest of the Aztec/Inca)

That book asserts that the africans never domesticated any animals because the zebra is impossible to tame. Obviously Mr. Diamond is retarded.
>>
>>18244423
Everyone asserts with absolutely 0 evidence that somehow eurasia got the most adorable tameable creatures and somehow every other continent despite being replete with LITERAL horses and bovines and other ungulates, just got unlucky.
>>
>>18244432
seriously in another universe we would just have cute cow-sized bison, but amerindians are literally just too busy flaying the skin off one another to appease the great turtle.
>>
>>18244287
oh God, you are so buttfucked by that book that you can not simply forget and let go of it.
>>
>>18244423
Putting 4 zebras on a carriage long enough to take a photo of them is not the same as domestication.
>>
>>18244454
It shows they have potential of domestication,
>>
>>18244463
No, it shows they managed to get them to stay still long enough to take a photo of them.
>>
>>18244287
If there was any truth to geographic determinism, modern logistics should've equalized the playing field long time ago
South African history alone disproves this garbage
>>
>>18244471
Yep all this set up for a photo op. Harnessing them to a carriage; setting up a camera the size of a Jeep, putting some evidently affluent passengers on a cart, all to risk their lives for a photo op just to troll future chuds into thinking they've tamed zebra. God browns/nonwhites cannot wrap their heads around their inferiority LMFAOOOOOOOO :DDDDDD :DDDDDD

seriously THE ONLY reason I'm glad I am white is because I do not need to deal with this fucking ridiculous cognitive dissonance, wherein I pretend I'm equal to whites in a world where I am surrounded by endless evidence to the contrary. It HAS to feel bad.

Cool, when will white people start riding bears and dogs on the way to work?

There are a lot of specific problems but the main issue is that it just oversimplifies history to such a degree that it's not even helpful

>i don't get why this book is so controversial

Because it's based on very sloppy understanding of literally every topic it touches.

Just some examples.

> his explanation of collapse of Greenland
He literally uses absence of evidence (no fishbones in trash heaps) as evidence of absence (that the Norse didn't fish and thus starved). Meanwhile there are tons of alternative explanations. For example boiling fishbones for some practical uses (food or glue production).

> muh zebras can't be domesticated
He weaponizes his complete misunderstanding how genetics and domestication work to claim that African species somehow aren't domesticable like their Eurasian cousins.

> muh geography
Completely ignores how in parts of Africa and other continents climactic conditions are completely conduitive to civilization. Heck, parts of Subsaharan Africa (like of the Horn of Africa and the Zanj coast) had access to Eurasian civilization since Antiquity and had similar climactic conditions.

> muh is down to luck
Completely ignores the institutional framework, how social and cultural institutions make some societies more adaptable, enterprenual and conductive to technological progress than others. This is where Diamond absolutely fails.
>>
>>18244308
Lefties dont say its racist, its pushed on academic universities all the time with the specific angle that OP mentioned
>>
>>18244308
Thats the thing, it isn't meaningless and "people" like him and Boas push a false narrative.
>>
>>18244497
This is CGI from the latest Avatar movie or something. You simply cannot tame the Zebra.
