The peace negotiations for the 30 Year War lasted like 6 years or so and had to be held in two cities simultaneously. The diplomatic proceedings required by rank, prestige and power that had to be formulated to even have these peace talks spawned the byzantine court structures of the Baroque.There have been many books written on it. The Westphalian Peace is the name of that historic achievement.

Read this book. Basically a really mental part of the Reformation and Europe's history generally. France had its own version a bit earlier but the German one was off the scale. Almost like a world war. Gigantic armies roaming around consuming everything they find. Huge camps full of disease. All sorts of powers getting involved to support this power or that power. A general called Wallenstein rising up and almost becoming like a dictator. Really engrossing and amazing story

That would be the deposition of the bohemian king (Ferdinand II.) by the bohemian estates, them electing a new king (Friedrich V. of the Palatinate) and whether or not those actions were lawful. The Protestant Union didn't even support Friedrich V. ascension to the bohemian throne as they saw that action as a personal power grab by Friedrich V, that would greatly destabalise the realm (which it did).
