World War II saw the US produce a variety of vehicles characteristic to the country.
Come the Korean and Cold War, the US' arsenal has no character. Frankensteinesque abominations where an oversized T29 turret is stitched atop a Sherman chassis. All puke army green. So many different models and makes of slop but they all look exactly the same.
USSR on the other hand figured out its characteristic designs so well that the US made codenames for them. You knew you were looking at a T62, or a Mi25. European countries created models to accommodate their geopolitical interests, whether it was defending overseas assets or operating as a "containment force" in the event of Soviet invasion.
Why did they look so rushed and ugly? Like they were designed in the heat of the moment? Wtf

Because you're more familiar with it. That's it.

I think the supremacy of American media in the West conditioned us to judge the American Military as the vanilla-flavour of all militaries (e.g. the stereotypical toy soldier wearing a m1 helmet and having a M16). The only American tanks which I, as someone who grew up mostly with German military history, consider ugly were the early war American tanks and the first Sherman Variants, but otherwise I kinda like the flair of American Tanks.
