What are the alternatives?
>MENA philosophy: "It's OK, Allah totally said all this shit!"
>East Asian philosophy: "ALL WILL SERVE THE HIVE!"
>Pre-European American philosophy: *cricket noises*

Post-WWII, US academies needed a Western Canon as soft power against USSR.
Massive funding to anthologize and translate specifically European thought, creating The Syllabus.

MENA philosophy is in the same tradition as European philosophy (the scholastics actually derive quite a bit from them), though.
East Asian (read: Chinese) is not about serving the collective at all. It's a very diverse tradition you know literally nothing about. And unrelated but Westerners are vastly more conformist, collectivistic and antlike than the chinese, and because they hate that about themselves they need to project it outward.
And pre-contact American philosophy was all burned and eradicated by Christian misisonaries.

But Greeks were influenced by Egyptians. Babylonians, and Zarathustra

The chinese may have had some form of philosophy before it was stamped out by legalism (which is not philosophy, but ideology, much like organised religions).
