do you consider religion more important or less important than your national identity?
Many people subordinate religion to their national identity and are members of a particular branch for historical and cultural reasons rather than how true it is. For instance someone in a culturally protestant part of Europe will be Protestant and someone in a culturally Catholic part of Europe will be Catholic without ever questioning their faith, as for them it is simply part of their cultural and often national identity. What are /his/'s thoughts on that?
Do you pick your religion because you think its true or because you think it is the best fit for your particular country/nation/people?
Bust of Cicero is unrelated to the topic at hand, I just didn't want to be another frogposter.

OP here this thread is supposed to be about the relationship between religious truth and religion as a national identity rather than another theological debate thread, although I'll be surprised if this thread gets more than ten replies.

The religion I'm part of is whatever will benefit me the most at any given moment. The country I'm part of is whatever I'm stuck with.

It won't my guy but religious affiliation by its very nature should be more important than the national identity given how most religions dictate the very foundation of reality and morality rather than who you associate with.

>To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian.
A man can only serve his people if he consents to serve Heaven first. Anyone who disagrees is simply an atheistic materialist who doesn't understand this life is only an imperfect reflection of a higher order, which is something everyone believed in the distant past. So there's simply no debate as far as I'm concerned, unless you're willing to stretch the definition of religion to include people who are "culturally" religious. Authentic believers will naturally prioritize the eternal over the temporary.

I hope you find your way to heaven as soon as possible.

would that mean that, perhaps, the majority of those born into particular faiths are not genuine believers as they only adhere to it for cultural reasons? I am reminded now of how in many places it was once required to adhere to a particular sect to hold political office, and so as a result many members of a religion were only members so far as it allowed them to access political power.
