Every black man who comes out of prison says that while in prison he changed his name to Abu Islam Muhammad and no longer celebrates Christmas because "dat shit pagan" "dat shit ain't about no Jesus, dat sum pagan shit", but this creates conflicts in black families, many of whom are still immersed in church life and holiday season. Having your son come out of prison in a kufi and a long flowing white Arab robe and refusing to take part in Christmas festivities creates friction and tension in the Black family especially with the elders. Yet this was not an issue at all in the 1950s. Islam was around then, so why were Black people not anti-Christian and pro-Islam then?

I'm not american but maybe it's the context within the spread of christianity to black culture compared to islam. While Islam made it to africa pre colonialism christianity did not spread further than Ethiopia. It's either that or the difference between however the two religions view welfare.
