Does mutual opposition to the Soviets (the actual good guys of the 20th century) really explain the takeover of US and its sattellites' institutions by Nazi sympathizers in the post war? This does not seem to explain how the Condor Legion from the war in Spain influenced people and policy as in CIA-led Condor operations to take over the Southern America.

Operation Gladio the US left intelligence to network with the mafia and recruit anti communists. They were organised in individual cells with the heads in contact between each other to combat domestic communism in western Europe. This happened mostly in Italy where the mafia with the papacies backing and in France but it was all over western europe. However they mostly stayed out of the greek civil war which is interesting maybe they wanted Greece to become communist.
