Can you describe what are the different regions of Scotland like historically? Who's more Scottish, more Irish and more British. Also are the Highlands mostly Catholic or Scottish Kirk?

>>18250086>>18250200For starters, here’s a map of Scotch Whiskey Regions. As you’ll see with my next few posts, this doesn’t perfectly correspond to historical regions at different levels, but it will help to give you some beginner’s insight into the cultire and how it’s been defined by geography
>>18250200It's kinda sad that non controversial topic like this is not getting significant traction. People only like to squabble and be contentious.
>>18250206True, it’s a shame. Bait, spam, and seethe threads fill up rapidly but few pay attention to these threads. More replies coming
>>18250086does anyone actually know about scottish history here? really any nation's history outside of random atrocities that are useful for trolling purposes?
>>18250086>>18250204Anyways, to start off with historical regions, here’s a larger division between North and South, the traditional split between the Highlands and Lowlands. I have a significant amount of Scottish ancestry. Almost all of my ancestors come from the Lowlands, specifically from Midlothian and Ayrshire, which are on opposite sides of the Lowlands. Midlothian in the East, Ayrshire in the West. Midlothian is the center of a Scottish historical region called Lothian, hence the “Mid” prefix at the beginning of the word. The rest of Lothian is made up of East Lothian and West Lothian. However, I also recently discovered I have some Scottish ancestors who hail from the Highlands, both from Northwest Scotland and Northeast Scotland, the Hebrides region and Aberdeenshire region respectively.
>>18250086>>18250215Now, here’s a more specific map showing historical regions, on which you can see the ancestral regions I mentioned. In the South you see Ayrshire and Midlothian, alongside other regions I don’t have any known ancestors from, as well as the Hebrides and Aberdeenshire.
>>18250086>>18250220Finally, here’s the most specific map of Historical Regions of Scotland, largely broken down by Scotland’s historical Counties and County Equivalents, as far as I can tell. This is the most specific map for historical regions, but if you want something less complicated, consult my second-to-last map in my previous post.
>>18250214I do, it’s pretty fascinating

Scotland is American clay, literally.
