Unlike virtually any other country, the US believes in keeping the morale of its troops high by giving them entertainment and stress relief. Pretty much every other elite military has had a massive divide between officers and enlisted men, where the officers might be afforded some luxuries but enlisted men were treated like animals. Even countries like Britain and France had this kind of military culture. Officers get to go to swanky clubs and dinner parties, enlisted men are basically left to fend for themselves and are lucky if they get to sleep indoors.
